Tamilnadu Assembly Election – Few Thoughts?

  • Confusion and Tug-of-war over alliance
  • Alliances formed based on tactics to win the election rather than ideologies and goals
  • No clear political manifesto to uplift the state but a manifesto packed with freebies

If I remember correct confusion and tug-of-war over alliance and seats sharing between political parties got much attention of the press this time around than any other election. The only motto for most of the parties is to somehow win some MLA seats by keeping their so-called “Ideologies” in the back burner - Simply, “No Ethics”.

As far as Tamilnadu is concerned, people have been left with just two choices for years – DMK or ADMK to rule the state. In fact I was almost positive that there will be an alternate choice for the voters at least this time around. Vaiko’s (V. Gopalsamy) MDMK, Vijayakath’s DMDK and few other small parties would have been made up of a third-front. Even, Congress-I would make this third-front much stronger alliance in my opinion. But sadly that didn’t happen, so voters are just left with same old two choices.

Now, looking at political manifesto, as I expected DMK has come up with a glamour package of few freebies. Too bad again – this is what exploitation of poor people of the state. Why did DMK choose to throw such freebies while there are so much good can be done for the state? – Clean Drinking water, Optimized Educational System, Uninterrupted Electricity, Eradication of corruption in Government Offices, Clean and hygienic pubic heath care systems, etc. – too many to be listed!

Looking at the other choice which is ADMK, I don’t remember seeing a clear manifesto from them yet, except party leader’s arrogance and attitude.

Moreover, It’s been a curse to Tamilnadu that when one of the above mentioned parties come to power, the opposition leader rarely shows up for assembly sessions. This is especially between Karunanidhi and Jeyalalitha. This is going to happen again, which is so unfortunate.

However, I would at least wish for couple of things – Firstly, Karunanidhi should get retire. Secondly, Rajinikanth should keep his mouth shut – no freakin’ so called “giving voice for a specific party” or even disclose  whom did he vote for.

Let the people of Tamilnadu think of their own for God’s sake!
