All Eyes on Anna Hazare – Good for India

  •          Spectrum 2G Scandal
  •           Assembly Election and Exploitation of Voters in Tamilnadu
  •          Protest Across Middle East for Democracy

What a great timing for the much needed cause in India by this noble man Mr. Anna Hazare. He is the “True Leader” in my opinion. It is high time for every Indian citizen to stand behind Hazare and get this momentum going. This is the opportunity for Indians to fight for the “TRUE” non-corrupted democracy for the sake of our future generations.

As a citizen of India, it is the duty and responsibility of each one of us to support Anna Hazare. This is our one and only opportunity to fight against “CORRUPTION”. Let’s better utilize this opportunity.

This man brings us hope to make our dream come true – that is INDIA becoming Super Power in 2020! With focus and commitment from each one of us, it becomes a possibility for sure.

It is also good that lot of our Bollywood stars are supporting Hazare, while South Indian stars especially from Kollywood (Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, etc) are keeping their mouth shut. This has been the talk of the town in many South Indian media. May be, it is because of the Assembly Election in Tamilnadu, these stars shy away from supporting Hazare. Whatever it may be, why do we have to worry too much about such stars? We should just ignore them and focus on the real issue!

I am definitely in with Anna Hazare for the MUCH NEEDED CAUSE FOR INDIA AT THIS JUNCTURE!

Tamilnadu Assembly Election – Few Thoughts?

  • Confusion and Tug-of-war over alliance
  • Alliances formed based on tactics to win the election rather than ideologies and goals
  • No clear political manifesto to uplift the state but a manifesto packed with freebies

If I remember correct confusion and tug-of-war over alliance and seats sharing between political parties got much attention of the press this time around than any other election. The only motto for most of the parties is to somehow win some MLA seats by keeping their so-called “Ideologies” in the back burner - Simply, “No Ethics”.

As far as Tamilnadu is concerned, people have been left with just two choices for years – DMK or ADMK to rule the state. In fact I was almost positive that there will be an alternate choice for the voters at least this time around. Vaiko’s (V. Gopalsamy) MDMK, Vijayakath’s DMDK and few other small parties would have been made up of a third-front. Even, Congress-I would make this third-front much stronger alliance in my opinion. But sadly that didn’t happen, so voters are just left with same old two choices.

Now, looking at political manifesto, as I expected DMK has come up with a glamour package of few freebies. Too bad again – this is what exploitation of poor people of the state. Why did DMK choose to throw such freebies while there are so much good can be done for the state? – Clean Drinking water, Optimized Educational System, Uninterrupted Electricity, Eradication of corruption in Government Offices, Clean and hygienic pubic heath care systems, etc. – too many to be listed!

Looking at the other choice which is ADMK, I don’t remember seeing a clear manifesto from them yet, except party leader’s arrogance and attitude.

Moreover, It’s been a curse to Tamilnadu that when one of the above mentioned parties come to power, the opposition leader rarely shows up for assembly sessions. This is especially between Karunanidhi and Jeyalalitha. This is going to happen again, which is so unfortunate.

However, I would at least wish for couple of things – Firstly, Karunanidhi should get retire. Secondly, Rajinikanth should keep his mouth shut – no freakin’ so called “giving voice for a specific party” or even disclose  whom did he vote for.

Let the people of Tamilnadu think of their own for God’s sake!

Middle East Turmoil – Is India Watching?

I am being optimistic here - It becomes so evident that sooner or later most of the Middle East countries will be relieved from Autocratic rulers to try to impose Democracy. That’s very good news and the people from those respective nations will start to enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of information and so forth.

Now, how would this Middle East “To Be Democracy” affect India? As we all know Indian citizens are predominantly “the working community” in most of the Middle East. My gut says –

AS CITIZENS OF MIDDLE EASTEREN COUNTRIES START TO ENJOY THE DEMOCRACY, THEY WILL GET THE “RIGHT” EDUCATION THEY NEED AND START TO FULFILL THEIR OWN NEEDS BY THEMSELVES.

For example – Right now, Saudi Arabia does not have an optimal Education System. Though kids graduated from colleges and universities, the skills acquired are not enough or even relevant to meet job requirements. That’s why Saudi hires Indians and other Asian citizens to fill the gap in the skill scarcity. Assuming (optimistically again) Saudi will one day become a “True Democracy” things will definitely change for good for her own citizens.

While things are unfolding in that region, it becomes a great responsibility for India in several ways, if we Indians are pro-active enough. Few things that we need to focus right on –

  • 1.       Creating more domestic jobs for Indian citizens who are working in Middle East.
  • 2.       Revenue created by NRIs in terms of foreign exchange.
  • 3.       Re-evaluation of our Education System and policies around it.

Those are just a few. But, I am hoping that Indian Administration is keenly watching what’s happening around and being pro-active in protecting the largest democracy in the world and its citizens going forward!!!

World is changing, so as we!!! It becomes INEVITABLE!!!

“Exploitation of Democracy” – Will there be an End?

“Government by THE PEOPLE; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a FREE electoral system” – That’s the definition of democracy.

While it is yet to be debated what is happening in Egypt will yield peace to Egyptian people or instability to the surrounding region, I am glad, at least people are awaken from the exploitation of so called ‘democracy’. Provided there will be a fair and balanced election to choose their next leader, and if it will be a continued process, that’s a huge step towards a decent democracy. Whether Hosni Mubarak steps down or not, there will definitely be instability in the region and a cascading effect to other world powers. But, from Egyptian people’s perspective, they fight for their own rights for a FREE electoral system. Once that’s in place, I am sure there are ways to bring stability to the surrounding region through bi-lateral relationships.

While all this is happening in Egypt, I started to think about how much exploitation is done in world’s largest democracy “INDIA”. No doubt, we have a proven democracy since independence in terms of conducting elections every five years. But, from an exploitation stand-point, I do not see a difference between Egypt and India except that Egypt is ruled by the same leader for 30 years. May be I am bit too harsh by saying that, but that’s a hard reality based on my perception and opinion.

I can say, by all means India is more developed than Egypt. So, when it comes to “Democracy”, it is a question that we need to ask ourselves – How can we eradicate the exploitation, so we can witness a real democracy sooner than later.

Let’s choose the “RIGHT” leaders, and hope our leaders are proactive enough to serve and uplift the country and people with “NO EXPLOITATION OF DEMOCRACY!!!”

“A Wish” for New Year 2011

Here’s a wonderful New Year and a warm adieu to the old! We have entered into 2011 with a hope to bring us happiness, good times and good cheer. Fair enough!

One of my personal wish this year – for the Tamil people of Sri Lanka, those who have been going through a lot of pain for years. Even though there was a decisive end to a brutal 30-year war, the civilian Tamil people are still facing issues with their day to day basic needs – food, drinking water and medicine.

As per the International Crisis Group, the current situation of Sri Lankan Tamils has been reported as follows - Of the nearly 300,000 people displaced from their homes by the last two years of fighting, the large majority have left the military-run camps in which they were locked for months. Despite this positive development, the latest UN figures indicate that more than 20,000 people remain in the camps another 70,000 live with host families, unable to return to their own land. Those who have returned home face huge problems, including a lack of housing and public infrastructure, and few opportunities to earn a living, with continued difficulties for many in farming their land and fishing off the coast.

Whatsoever happened in the past is past. These poor people (including so many young children with lots of dreams), have suffered enough. It is unfair if the status-quo continues to exist. Both the Sri Lankan Government and the International Community must find a decent life for these affected people, so they can also live peacefully like any other normal  people in the world.

I pray to God that 2011 to bring a little HAPPINESS and PEACE to the Sri Lankan Tamils!
